i’m the soubrette,
vain and girlish,
mischievous and coquettish,
lighthearted and gossipy,
a confidante alongside pantaloon
center the stage,
blinding lights,
the audience sees colombina,
the little dove flies
and there you are,
the rake,
so,
the little dove never gets to far
innamorati, will we?
harlequinade, shall we?
the cad and the foil, are you?
are you harlequin?
hey,
i’ve been immensely considering the possibility
of switching to film photography lately
…and why shouldn’t i?
the digital age begins to tire me
i grew weary of stereotypical photography wannabes
of the people who mistaken expensive, over-the-top tools
for the ability to take good and better photos
of the growing trend to take excessive photos of a single shot
just because it is digital
(only to select and edit a few good ones in photoshop later)
well,
i don’t discriminate against digital cameras lowering their margins
thus, become more accessible to the public
and welcome more enthusiasts to the once exclusive club
but it’s the mindlessness and thoughtlessness that disgusted me deeply
what is the point of having a 5D mark ll with bazooka L lense
and take some shots that i could have taken
(with better results at that)
via a compact camera?
anyway,
digital cameras, however manual it is,
still restrict many things i want to experiment in photography
and i don’t consider myself amongst the much hyped lomographic society
i’m someone who is still have much to learn in film photography
and lomography is simply part of the bigger picture
ps.
it is kind of weird
but last night, when i was going through my portfolio
i found that the ones i tend to favour
are the ones made to be like film photos
“I’m tired of hype.
Some of the toy and film camera enthusiasts
are as snobby as their megapixel countin’ cousins.
The whole point is that photography should be fun, educational,
an artistic expression, and a method of recording facts and fiction.
When it becomes a fashion statement/accessory or conversation piece
then it loses it’s whole point.”
